Bridges Glanerbeek

NEXT architects

Description

Bridges Glanerbeek are based on the concept of dividing the three major transportation arteries present in the area; the lanes of bike, bus and pedestrian. By splitting up the lanes and assigning each individual artery the maximum available height, clearance and incline, it will result in the highest attainable un-interrupted view of the water. With the addition of a bench on the apex of each lane, the bridges become more than merely land connectors; they become a destination in themselves. The construction is based on a thin in-situ concrete deck, strategically positioned on top of a repetition of gabions filled with rough stones. The use of gabions allows plants and wildlife to inhabit the structure therefore further integrating the proposal into its natural surroundings.
